it lives in the pit of my stomach. the pull, the knots. at any moment everything will tighten in my chest, numbness spreads to my arms and fingers and my instinct to flee is activated.
When asked by my son, "If you could have any super power what would it be?" My answer is always invisibility. He sparks into great imaginative stories about all I could spy on and learn about people. When in fact I would want to be invisible so I could do all I want to do without having to be seen. All I could accomplish and experience without having to go through the painful, exhausting merry-to-round of anxiety.
Someone very dear to me also feels the tightening and instinct to flee when attempting to participate in new. Since early childhood I began to see in her symptoms and I knew. I knew she was feeling those same devastating feelings, that same debilitation belly ache, that same flush of heat and blurriness that I had suffered with for so long.
She's probably sick of hearing it, but I say to her "the anticipation is always worse than the reality” and every time I'm right. I know it doesn't always make it easier to face the anxiousness, worry and fear of new, the loss of control you have over new situations can feel paralyzing, but having a little mantra that you can repeat does help. We have to remind ourselves, many, many times over a lifetime that our mind sometimes lets us down and the reality will never be as bad as what our minds have made up. The worse case scenario will not happen.
We must be brave 5 seconds at a time, over and over again until we've gotten through it.
We must celebrate every success. We must sit with how it feels to have overcame, pushed through and be proud of ourselves every time "we did it scared". Because every time it was worth it.

There are a few essential oils that aid me and my special someone when facing times of uncertainty. The first is Peppermint. This amazing oil helps to ease belly discomfort and that queasiness that often accompanies big emotions. We simply breathe out of the bottle and apply topically to the belly. The second is Valor. Valor promotes feelings of strength and courage and is our go-to for all uneasy feelings. We apply many times on the back of the neck, temples, the throat and wrists. Using our body as a diffuser, we breathe oil off our skin as much as we need to. You will sense a calmness come over you allowing an interruption in the radical and spiraling thoughts your brain is participating in, giving you a chance to regain control. The third is KidPower. Similar to Valor this blend promotes calmness, courage, confidence, positivity and power. The fourth is Lavender. Easy to use and apply this oil is amazing to breath in right from the bottle. It will have a immedient sense of calm. Deep breathing lavender for many seconds will recenter your thoughts. The fifth is Orange. We often use citrus oils, orange in particular, before any time or event where we may feel uneasy. It is a very happy, uplifting, energetically positive oil and going into something new with high frequency will only make us feel more in control.
My journey with essential oils began because of my battle with mental distress. With a little training, tools and time I have been able to retrain my brain and its flight reactions. I can sense when I'm losing control, use my oils and my breath to take back my power and I can walk through anything, 5 seconds at a time. Hallelujah!
Check them out for yourself! I am here to guide and mentor your in anyway I can.
