RUN OUTSIDE. TAKE A PICTURE OF THE FIRST THING YOU SEE. RUN INSIDE. TAKE A PICTURE OF THE SECOND THING YOU SEE. WRITE ABOUT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THESE TWO RANDOM OBJECS, PEOPLE OR SCENES.
Right now amidst the frigid winds and snow drifts that rip around the corner of the house it looks dead. It is brown and brittle. It bears no color and even the thrones are unthreatening. There is waits for the warm sunshine to revive it. In the summer it is alive. Alive with small and perfect bright pink wild roses. The rose bush is large, but each flower is danty in size and their fragrance is strong.
On the edge of my counter sits a common thing. It’s used to hold preserved foods, ice water and at times a collection of paint brushes. But in the summer it sits in the middle of my counter alive with a fresh bouquet of bright pink roses. I bring a handful of those fragrant tiny roses in. And together with other flowers grown in our yard they live for days cradled in my green mason jar. They sight of both together is something I treasure. So simple. So happy. So warm and inviting.
