VANILLA, CHOCOLATE, OR SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY?
On hot, muggy summer evenings and after an afternoon at the city pool, The Ice Cream Parlor in Choteau is the place to be. We always promised that if you visited us in the summer, you will get the best ice cream cone you’ve ever had. We’ve taken many family and friends there . It makes a great memory and a great picture. The dinosaurs are there too and old wagons and grizzly bear cages.
The building is straight from a Small Town America magazine. It is inviting and comfortable. On the inside, the walls are covered with old time black and white photos of our town. There is always a friend to say hello to and usually there is a little splash of free coffee available in the coffee pot.
The cooler expands the distance of the parlor. The teenagers behind the counter are always sweet and friendly. The cooler is full of the common flavors, but even more special are the flavors you may not expect.
Inside the parlor there a few table and chairs, but when we are there we always sit outside on the grass.
There are flowers that landscape the old wooden buildings and wooden walking planks. Benches and picnic tables are covered in sticky ice cream handprints. Dave takes care of the grounds. The gardens are beautiful.
My all-time favorite is smooth, refreshing and minty. Every mouthful is full of large chunks of chocolate mint cups. The scoops are enormous and on top a huge waffle cone there really is nothing better on a hot summer’s night.
It’s called Montana Moose Moss and on chilly winter days I crave the warm feeling I get licking on a cold ice cream cone.
Listening to two-year old Landon, too short to even see into the cooler, order “Montana Moose Moss Please” all is own is something I will never forget!
