Wild crafting medicines is a favorite hobby of mine. Our forests and yards are full of wild healing plants. In early spring the cottonwood buds are ready to be harvested. I love when we find newly downed limbs because we can take all the buds and cause no damage to the living tree! I will use these buds to make a favorite medicine.

Roo & Blue’s kids have arrived! Late last night she birthed 2 kids very fast, while I walked Ev inside to go potty. As I was walking back out I heard those tiny squeaks coming from the goat barn!! One squeeze a year from our sweet Fallon is never enough but, I’m so grateful for our fun day together. 💕 We escaped with 5 minutes to spare! 🏴‍☠️ ❤️ we love and adore you and we are so proud of all of you!

Thanks to the needless slaughter of almost 2 million chickens and all those “random” fires in SO many chicken farms —my spring meat chick order was canceled. The hatchery I’ve used for years was unable to fulfill my order. It’s a good reminder of the constant attacks on our food system independence & one more way to move closer to self-sufficiency. My Rhode Island & New Hampshire Red birds have been enclosed together. I will be hatching my own meat chicks this spring. Although the breed isn’t what I normally choose for meat, and the process will drag on all summer/fall, they are a breed that grows relatively fast and is a great dual chicken breed for meat and eggs.

Bone broth - life’s elixir. I make bone broth ALL THE TIME. My stock pot will make 7 quarts of bone broth and my pressure canner will can 7 quarts at a time- it really is about the little things! I use bone broth in so many recipes from rice to soups to roasts. We sip it when we don’t feel well and I drink it daily for the collagen & vitamin benefit.

To a large stock pot, add the bones or carcasses of turkey, beef or chicken. Tip:: after cooking, let’s say whole chicken I will save the carcass with whatever meat is left on it and freeze it. Making it really easy to throw into a stock pot when I’m ready to make broth.

Cover with water. I add carrots and celery, salt and pepper, peppercorns, a sliced onion, two cloves of garlic and 3 tablespoons of Italian seasoning. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low and simmer for 24 to 48 hours. You can jar it and store it in the refrigerator or pressure can it. Once your pressure canner is at 10 lbs pressure, process for 35 minutes for MT altitude.

What if the high cost of statins (that they increase dosage constantly) and other high cholesterol drugs that make you a lifelong phar$a customer are actually harming you more than helping you? What if those statins and the low-fat diet deteriorate the brain and lead to Alzheimer’s (cue more drugs)? I promise, it easier than driving to town to buy a loaf of bread! 🍞

:: The Best Daily Bread Recipe ::

This recipe makes 2 loaves!

2 1/2 Cups water, milk or whey or a combo (I prefer 1 cup milk or whey and 1 1/2 cup water)
2 T yeast
2 T honey or pure maple syrup

Warm milk or water and combine in a mixer bowl with honey or maple syrup and yeast. Stir gently. Allow yeast to bloom, about 10 minutes.

Add 1 tsp salt and 6 1/2 C flour (I use a non-bleached, un-enriched organic all purpose flour). Mix dough with dough hook. Continue to knead in mixer for 6 minutes. Remove dough hook. Cover bowl with a towel. Allow to rise until doubled, about 1 hour.

Punch down dough. Divide dough into 2, shape to fit in loaf pans. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Allow dough to second rise in loaf pan as oven is heating up. Bake for 30 minutes. Enjoy! ♥️
